Jim Cassidy
Scofield Memorial Church, Dallas, Texas
Some time ago our Facilities Care Coordinator received a call in the early hours on a Sunday morning from our Fire Alarm Monitoring company that a fire alarm had been activated at the church. Per our emergency response procedure, he met the fire department at the building and discovered a huge section of a covered porch had pulled away from the building and collapsed, which caused the rupture of the fire sprinkler system in the ceiling of the porch resulting in a water flow alarm. The fire sprinkler system for that part of the building was shut off along with the electrical supply to the porch. The custodial supervisor was called and joined the Facilities Coordinator in wet-vac pick up of the flooded interior room and hallway adjacent to the porch. Then the team proceeded to shore up the area around a main entrance door with 4X4's and braces. Caution tape and barricades were put in place and the area secured just in time as the first people began to arrive for Sunday School. All Sunday activities took place without diversion or interruption. Thank the Lord for His protection as all this occurred while no people were present.
